Biography

Deepti counsels clients on a range of critical ESG issues.

Deepti’s past legal and project management work in the non-profit and corporate worlds has helped build the foundation for her ESG practice. She understands the perspectives of diverse stakeholders and develops holistic solutions to some of the most pressing issues related to climate change, the circular economy, supply chains, and resource efficiency.

Carbon Markets and Green Transactions

Deepti assists clients in navigating carbon markets, including emission reduction generators and companies seeking to procure emissions reductions. Her projects have included forest carbon, blue carbon, biochar, carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), and beyond. She has led numerous carbon offset procurement negotiations from project identification, where she accounted for domestic and foreign guidance, to end purchase and retirement of verified emissions reductions. Deepti has negotiated over a dozen clean energy infrastructure projects and has advised on the various tax and other incentives in the sustainable energy and fuels space.

Green Marketing and Sustainability Disclosures

Deepti regularly facilitates assessments of client sustainability goals, carbon strategies, and public statements guided by her deep understanding of green marketing and sustainability disclosure laws. She has developed a comprehensive knowledge of international law on these and other ESG subjects and the related foreign and domestic federal and state regimes. This global monitoring allows Deepti to anticipate changes in client responsibilities and direct corporate decision-making to enable her clients to stay ahead of competitors.

The Circular Economy and Responsible Supply Chain

Deepti advises clients on circularity strategies with a particular focus on multilateral environmental agreements, including the Basel Convention, the forthcoming Global Plastics Treaty, and related multilateral agreements. She also provides compliance advice on extended producer responsibility requirements, human rights considerations impacting trade, and responsible sourcing.

Deepti is deputy co-chair and co-founder of the ESG and Sustainability practice group, deputy chair and co-founder of the Apparel & Textiles industry group, and deputy co-chair of the Women’s Initiative at B&D.
