Jose Almanzar to Chair CLE-Accredited Panel: New Perspectives on Environmental Justice
B&D New York Associate Jose Almanzar will moderate a panel at the New York State Bar Association's (NYSBA) Environmental & Energy Law Section (EELS) virtual CLE program "Superfund/Brownfield Update 2021: Federal And State Environmental Law And Policy." The conference will take place on Wednesday, December 8 online from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.
Jose's panel–New Perspectives on Environmental Justice–will explore the intersection of environmental justice, the state and federal Superfund programs, and the New York State Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP). Jose and the panelists will discuss where these programs have furthered or hampered EJ goals, and potential policy solutions to improve these programs to better address EJ concerns.
The panel will feature Frank Cherena, a Professional Geologist with Roux, Jeffrey Jones, a political strategist and early advocate of the BCP, and Samara Swanston, Esq., who is currently with the New York City Counsel and was a prior attorney with both the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region II. This year's keynote speaker will be Walter Mugdan, Acting Regional Administrator for Region II of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
