B&D’s New York Office Moves into New Space in Midtown Manhattan
Beveridge & Diamond (B&D) proudly announces the move of its New York office to 825 Third Avenue, 16th Floor in Manhattan’s Midtown East neighborhood. B&D’s New York office, opened in 1982, helps clients in New York, the United States, and worldwide on environmental and project development issues, including environmental justice, ESG, waste management, contaminated property remediation, insurance coverage, and all types of litigation.
Senior Counsel Stephen Gordon helped establish the office in October 1982 in response to outreach from Henry Diamond, one of the firm’s founders who served as the first Commissioner of New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation. As Commissioner, Diamond led a 533-mile bike ride across the State of New York to advocate for legislative passage and voter approval of the Environmental Quality Bond Act of 1972. The effort was successful, and the Act provided $1.2 billion for water and air pollution control and land acquisition in the State.
More recently, B&D New York lawyers have advised clients on matters including:
- The redevelopment of a contaminated site allowing for the construction of the Tappan Zee Bridge.
- Permitting of power generation and transmission facilities, including the first major power plant constructed on Long Island, NY in over 40 years.
- Project development and permitting of a submarine cable system providing electricity to New York City from a power plant in New Jersey.
- Securing approval for the construction of the largest battery storage facility in New York State history.
- Recovery of business interruption insurance proceeds for Covid-19 shutdowns under pollution liability insurance policies.
- Defense of multiple product liability and toxic tort claims involving alleged groundwater contamination on Long Island and in upstate New York.
- Defense of nuisance and negligence odor claims for multiple local landfills and manufacturing facilities.
Office Managing Principal Dan Krainin said, “We look forward to continuing B&D’s legacy as a leader on environmental law issues in New York, and we are excited to welcome colleagues and clients into our great new space in New York City.”
