Law360 chose Principal Megan Morgan (Baltimore) as a 2024 Rising Star in the Environmental practice area. Out of more than 1,200 nominations, Law360 selected “158 attorneys under 40 whose legal accomplishments belie their age.” Megan is one of only five attorneys recognized in the Environmental category.

In her interview with Law360, Megan discussed striking down more than $200 million in permit fees for a California landfill, counseling Fortune 100 tech companies regarding corporate sustainability and responsibly sourcing, and defending a major railway against a potential $4 trillion penalty.  She also spoke about the enforcement defense and compliance sides of environmental law coming together for cross-cutting issues like emerging contaminants.

"I'm really motivated by my clients," Megan said. "I have been very blessed to have excellent clients. They're great to work for. It's about watching them do all the hard work, and then I get to tell their story. Knowing that I'm working with the best in the industry really motivates me and inspires me to dig in, understand the story and the facts, and be able to explain that to the audience, whether its regulators, the public, or whomever."

Megan is a litigator who is frequently involved as a trial team member on B&D’s largest and most critical cases. Clients value her ability to marshal complicated facts and create winning narratives in court trials, arbitrations, and agency appeals. She also co-chairs B&D’s ESG, Sustainability practice. Her multidisciplinary background—including a Master of Business Administration—ensures Megan’s ability to find the most expedient and effective business-forward paths and deftly navigate the needs of different business units within client companies. Megan thrives on solving complex environmental problems, and her counseling balances business goals with legal risk to advise implementing new ESG and other compliance obligations.

Megan is also the co-chair of B&D’s Women’s Initiative and has had a long-time involvement with the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL), previously co-chairing NAWL’s affinity group for working parents. A native Minnesotan, Megan regularly visits the Twin Cities area, where she serves as a director for The Good Acre, a regional food hub working to improve the local food system for diverse, independent farmers and increase access to healthy produce for all consumers regardless of income. She recently completed a three-year term as the President of The Good Acre Board.
