Jamie Auslander Quoted in S&P Global Commodity Insights Regarding Energy Storage in Gulf of Mexico

B&D Principal Jamie Auslander was quoted in an S&P Global Commodity Insights article titled “US Gulf of Mexico eyed for overlapping offshore wind, carbon storage like North Sea.”

The article discusses how energy developers are considering building overlapping sites to generate offshore wind and store CO2 captured from the coast's petrochemical and other manufacturing facilities along the Gulf of Mexico, similar to what’s been done in the North Sea in Europe.

The US Department of Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is considering expansion of both uses to the Gulf of Mexico.  In early 2022 BOEM announced it would prepare an environmental assessment for potential Gulf offshore wind leasing that is due out this summer.

"When BOEM does environmental reviews, it looks at cumulative impacts of other uses to figure out how it will work. It may very well consider the impact of one use or activity on another as part of this review," Jamie said.

Jamie is the co-chair of B&D’s Natural Resources and Project Development practice group.
