Principal Jamie Auslander (Washington, DC) was quoted in a January 4 article in Splinter titled Sorry, Oregon Militants: National Parks and Refuges Are Definitely Constitutional.” The article discusses the recent seizure of a federal building by Oregon ranchers.

In response to the group occupying a federal building in order to reclaim land that they claim was unconstitutionally taken by the federal government, Jamie said, "The national parks and national wildlife refuges system are pursuant to statutes enacted by Congress. There is not a bona fine legal claim that I’ve seen raised in this instance.”

Jamie noted that is instead more likely that this is the most recent result of the ranchers’ anger over the amount of land in the West owned by the government.
