Firmwide Managing Principal Marc Goldstein (Boston), spoke with Law.com about Beveridge & Diamond’s significant growth resulting in a rise in rank to 19th on AmLaw’s Mid-Market 50 list.

While discussing the firm’s significant revenue and headcount growth in recent years, Marc explained that the growth stems from the “pretty extraordinary” demand from clients for work and advice in areas such as environmental litigation, ESG, environmental justice, and climate change, all of which are longstanding core practice areas at B&D that set the firm apart from others. B&D added 27 lawyers since early 2023 – including former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Justice, and Texas Office of the Attorney General lawyers – and continues to seek lawyers who wish to build regulatory and litigation careers in environmental law and related areas.

“We’re well positioned for that work because of who we are and what we do, and the market is exploding for that work.”

Marc also discussed the firm’s adherence to its strategic plan, completed in 2022 and being implemented now. The plan focuses on adding and developing legal talent and paying close attention to firm business issues, including responding to client needs for efficient staffing and budget management alongside superior legal work product. Marc also noted B&D’s “intentional and market-driven shift to handling more litigation,” including the firm’s efforts to build on its historic litigation practice. More than half the firm’s lawyers are litigators and clients seek B&D for its unique ability to pair litigators with lawyers who possess deep regulatory backgrounds.

The interview concluded with Marc discussing potential geographical expansions for B&D. While B&D currently has seven offices nationwide, Marc noted that B&D will “likely look at one or two new offices over the next two or three years.” He mentioned client needs and an expansion of remote work from the pandemic as key drivers for the firm to explore adding capacity in new geographic markets.
