Principal Julius Redd Quoted in E&E Greenwire on New Environmental Justice Legal Toolkit
B&D Principal Julius M. Redd (Washington, DC) was quoted in an E&E article titled “EPA rolls out new EJ legal toolkit.” The article discusses the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s latest plan to accomplish the Biden Administration’s environmental justice (EJ) goals.
The toolkit, EPA Legal Tools to Advance Environmental Justice, focuses on enforcing core environmental policies such as the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act to tackle pollution and climate impacts in underserved communities.
The toolkit encourages EPA to seek community input when settling complaints under Title VI of the Civil Act, which Julius explained “is perhaps the first time this has been memorialized in guidance documents.”
He also said that given that there are currently no federal EJ laws, “Agencies that have responsibility for enforcing environmental laws are doing so using the levers that are available to them to advance environmental justice concerns.”
B&D's Environmental Justice practice has been at the forefront of EJ issues for decades, bringing specialized private sector and government experience to bear. We represent multinational companies and municipal clients in complex disputes and high-profile project development, corporate ethics and governance, environmental compliance, and investigations related to EJ and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 enforcement.
