Savoy Names Ben Wilson to List of Most Influential Black Corporate Directors for 2021
Beveridge & Diamond congratulates firm chairman Ben Wilson (Washington, DC) on his recognition by Savoy Magazine as one of their "Most Influential Black Corporate Directors" for the third time (he was included in 2016 and 2017 as well).
Ben is the Lead Director at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, chairs the Audit Committee on PG&E Corporation's Board of Directors, and is a Board Member at APCO Worldwide. He is also Chair of the Environmental Law Institute (ELI), serves as Board Secretary of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), and for the past 30 years, he has been the Chairman of the Environmental, Energy, and Public Utilities Law Section of the National Bar Association.
Savoy is a leading business magazine reporting on African American success and achievement, and the Most Influential Black Corporate Directory is a prestigious listing of executives, influencers, and achievers active on the boards of the world's leading corporations and organizations.
Over his 35-year career at B&D, Ben has been lead counsel in numerous complex environmental litigation and regulatory matters for major consumer product corporations, retailers, oil and gas companies, municipalities, and developers. He served as the Court-Appointed Monitor for the Duke Energy coal ash spill remediation project and as Deputy Monitor for Emissions & Environmental in the Volkswagen AG emissions proceedings. Ben recently announced he planned will retire from the practice of law and the firm effective January 1, 2022.
Outside his legal practice, Ben teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Law at the Howard University School of Law, where he co-founded the Howard Energy and Environmental Law Society. In 2018, Diverse: Issues In Higher Education featured Ben in the “Black Scholars Matter” series, celebrating Black academicians and their work. He established the African American General Counsel and Managing Partner Networks in 2012 and founded the Diverse Partners Network in 2008.
Ben's recognition by Savoy follows other recent accolades, such as The American Lawyer’s Lifetime Achievement Award, being named to Lawyers of Color’s Most Influential Black Lawyers of the Decade list, and the National Bar Association’s Presidential Award. In July of this year, My Brother’s Keeper | My Sister’s Keeper honored Ben with a video tribute.
