Beveridge & Diamond recently welcomed Leigh Barton (Washington, DC), Jessica Maloney (New York), Nicole Waxman (Washington, DC), and Jack Zietman (Washington, DC) as Associates. 

Leigh supports clients in a diverse mix of environmental litigation and regulatory matters nationwide across industrial sectors. Her experience includes work on land use and solid waste litigation, permit compliance, CERCLA allocation, and utility ratemakings. Prior to joining B&D, Leigh attended the Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as Managing Editor of the Georgetown Environmental Law Review, Treasurer of the Environmental Law Society, and Political Chair of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association.

Jessica defends clients in toxic tort and product liability litigation, including class and mass actions. She also handles litigation relating to site remediation and groundwater contamination and counsels clients on projects implicating federal species protection law. She co-leads the Toxic Torts and Mass Torts section of the firm’s Litigation practice group. Prior to law school, Jessica traveled to Panama, Vietnam, China, and the Pacific Ocean’s North Pacific Subtropical Gyre to study coastal zone management, international water resource conflicts, and marine micro-plastics. 

Nicole focuses on complex environmental litigation and a diverse array of regulatory matters. Nikki untangles complex environmental law matters into manageable tasks to ensure that clients achieve their desired outcomes. She has varied experience with issues arising under the Clean Air Act, CERLCA, and CWA. Nikki also counsels clients in the energy sector regarding federally managed onshore lands. She was extensively involved with the firm’s team that supported the Independent Corporate Compliance Monitor in connection with the Volkswagen AG diesel emissions proceedings Leveraging this experience, she counsels clients in the automotive industry on their emission compliance processes. Prior to joining B&D, Nikki clerked in the civil litigation practice area of a mid-Atlantic law firm, worked as a law clerk in the Environment & Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, and was an honors law clerk in the Airports and Environmental Law Division of the Federal Aviation Administration.

Jack's experience includes counseling clients regarding the registration, labeling, and distribution of antimicrobial disinfectants and devices, as well as regulatory counsel for other products regulated under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), and the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). He also represents clients in complex civil and criminal environmental litigation, helps clients to develop and establish carbon offset programs, and is familiar with the evolving U.S. regulations of industrial hemp and cannabis and organic agriculture. Before law school, Jack worked as a political campaign media consultant in Washington, DC, as a farmer in Connecticut, and as a high school history and English teacher in Massachusetts.
